Transition from Work to Home Meditation
Do you find it hard to turn off work when you’re home and done for the day? We find this is a common challenge among our coaching clients. It’s up to us to create clear work boundaries and turn off work when we’re home. Here are some ideas that have worked for our clients for you to explore:
Maintain a regular work schedule. Stick to set start and end times and follow through with them. Our bodies love routine and when we can stop work at the same time each day, it will encourage our minds to do the same.
Create an end of work day routine. About 30 minutes before you leave your (home) office, start winding down by replying to the most pressing emails, cleaning up your desk, and creating tomorrow’s to do list.
Change out of your work clothes. When you get home from work, change out of your work clothes to physically transition from your workday. You can do this even when working from home too.
Unplug. The same technology that makes it so easy for us to do our jobs can also burn us out. Schedule time to unplug. Some of our clients implement “no phones at dinner” or “no laptop Saturday.”
To help you unplug and be more present after your workday ends, we created a Transition from Work to Home meditation. Listen here:
Before you begin, take a few minutes to create your work to do list for the next day. Then power down your work computer and silence your work phone. Lastly, remind yourself that this transition time is time for you and you alone.
